The Grizzlies Slo Pitch team participated in the Walton Brewers Men’s Rec Hockey tournament in Monkton on March 22&23. This was the second season for the Grizzlies as a tournament hockey team.
The first game was a fast paced, and hard fought 3-2 shootout loss to the Royals. We were able to come back with a come from behind 3-2 victory in game 2 vs the Crystal. In game 3 the Grizzlies were able to coast to a 6-1 victory against the Storm.
The 2-0-1 record put the Grizzlies in a wait and see position as the Crystal faced off against the Royals. The Grizzlies needed the Crsytal to win in order to send us to the championship game. A friendly offer of a round of beverages to the Crystal if they could pull out the win seemed to motivate them as the Crystal beat the Royals.
In the championship game, the Grizzlies faced off against the Devils. The game was entertaining for players on both sides, with a shootout required to decide a winner. The Grizzlies were able to prevail and pull out the 4-3 shoot out victory, and tournament champions.
The Grizzlies would like to thank Chuck Robertson for joining the Grizzlies as goalie and playing a large role in our championship.
The hockey tournament officially kicked off Grizzly spring training, and we look forward to getting back to our roots on the ball diamonds for the 2013 season!
