2012 Grizzly Season in Review

On and Off Season for the Grizzlies…

Coming off a successful 2011 slo-pitch season as 4th place finishers throughout the year and ‘A’ finalists in the year end tournament, the Grizzlies had high expectations going into the 2012 campaign. In the annual Coyotes tournament, the Grizzlies were able to post one of their best finishes in a number of years by winning the B Championship. As the season came to a close, the Grizzlies finished in 6th place in the league standings with a record of 10 wins and 14 losses.

Going into the year end tournament the Grizzlies were missing three of their key players; one due to not making the required number of games and two others because of a wedding (who plans a wedding on the year end tournament weekend?). Competing in the division with the Grizzlies were the 3 time champion Steelers (2nd seed), the 3 time and defending champion Athletics (3rd seed), the 3rd place finishers at Cornfest Cardinals (7th seed) and the up and coming Sons of Pitches (9th seed). The Grizzlies allowed no more than 10 runs in any game, but were unable to get any run support. We finished with a respectable 2-2 record after round robin play which was good enough for 3rd place.

The Grizzlies advanced to play on Sunday on the B side of the tournament with a semi final matchup against the Kamies. The Grizzlies were able to handily win the game 11-3 and advance to the finals in a re-match of the Friday night round robin game. Against the Cardinals, a very tight game until the end resulted in the Cardinals prevailing as B champs. Congratulations to the Cardinals on winning the B and to the Steelers for winning the A Championship.

Rumor has it that 15 year veteran Daryl Vosper is considering filing for retirement. Although the Grizzlies continue to negotiate with his agent for a new contract, if he should retire we would like to thank Boomer for the 15 years of service and all the laughs!
